My products follow the same structures as my previous ones but with more detail and a better design as can be seen on label A (and above). The Masthead has similar qualities such as font, but the colour of it has changed from red to yellow which in my mind presents a more appealing look to the magazine itself along with what i believe providing a better psychological effect on my target audience as instead of presenting rage, it presents hope.

My new colour scheme consists of yellow, black and white; it is very like the Kerrang magazine but without including the colour green. I also reduced my colour usage from five different colours to three. I believe this actually looks more visually appealing as its not quite so dark and dull, my new one almost has a new lease of life feel to it.

My main cover image has stayed exactly the same but I have altered its size so that it now takes up more of the page and covers the Masthead ever so slightly. This to me is more effective as he is more dominant on he magazine and as the main image, they're suppose to be the most eye catching. Although the image is the same, the sense of him looking away from the camera is more powerful as it presents him in a god like status, which allures my target audience in.

The use of white space has changed as my new location is predominantly at the bottom right of my magazine, this is due to me re-arranging my cover lines and i believe this is effective as it doesn't look empty in a bad way, it looks right that there is nothing there and in effect does not affect the audiences interest in dropping.

The coverlines have now changed as I have provided little quotes underneath to spark my target audiences interest; I have also tilted the coverlines so that the page feels on a slant almost which I believe is effective as it unintentionally draws people in as its different and therefore doesn't necessarily conform, just like my target audience doesn't conform to society.

I have also changed the fonts so that they're bolder and more dominant which in a way I hope to make relate to my target audience again, that they feel like they have more power.
The division of my contents page has a much more professional feel to it as the layout is more effective, more stylized and therefore more attractive. I believe it will be much more popular than my original piece as shown on prezi.

My column structure is similar, although it is on the other side of the page and only consists of two columns without including the mini columns under the picture. I believe this is more effective than my original as it doesn't draw the audiences attention away from the image.

My mise-en-scene is much more improved as it is clearer to see, takes up the majority of the page and my actors have been positioned better with better expressions so that they suit my target audiences more stereotypical band along with having a much better feel to the image itself. I believe the mise-en-scene has been heavily improved and overall presents a far better feel to the feature article.

Overall, I have made a lot more developed media product which has a better way of developing on and challenging forms and conventions of real media products.

Looking back at your preliminary task (the college magazine task), what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to full product?

What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

How did you attract/address your audience?

The point of sale for my magazine will be on shelves in major retailer stores like ASDA, stores that people visit on a weekly basis for food, clothes, technology and magazines; this will be so that people see my magazine on a regular basis. Then I have done to grab my target audience’s attention to come over and pick my magazine up to look at it by what I have done with the cover of my magazine. I have made the masthead big and bold with an outline to make the writing stand out, along with a large main image of my celebrity that is has all the conventions of a stereotypical heavy metal singer, this is seen through his code of dress, code of gesture and code of expression. His also not looking in direct mode at the camera like you would usually see and this is because it shows he is rebelling to the norm of society just like heavy metal fans are, so this would attract them over as he is acting like one of them. Once drawn over they’d notice the free gift inside which would then make them curious as to what it would be. I then have a list of a few bands that will be featured in my magazine down the right hand side of my cover; these bands play the genre of music my target audience listen to and some lighter bands who might appeal to the fans that like lighter rock and heavy metal; this gives you an idea on what the content will look like, also as it tells you that there will be competitions, new releases, etc.

The colour scheme is dark, with a few light colours to highlight specific points; the colours consist of black, yellow and white. These appeal to my target audience in a certain way as black shows rebelling against society, the evil that lies in the darkness, and the people who thrive in the darkness and out of sight of others. Yellow almost signifies a light at the end of the tunnel, that my audience have something to fight for no matter how hard things get. The colours link to my target audience as it shows they are not a part of the way of life of society; they’re different, rebellious and follow their own norms and values. However, they know this and sometimes lead them to self-harm which is why the yellow is used, to suggest that there’s something better to keep fighting for. This is why I have chosen the colour scheme to psychologically relate to my target audience to attract them over to look at my magazine. Also from my research into existing products e.g. Kerrang and NME I noticed that black, white and yellow was a commonly used theme.

I have involved certain content and used a certain type of language to also attract my target audience within the magazine. The photos I have used of my models have been used to represent them as being heavy metal band members so that they relate to my target audience. However, the person I have used as being the editor of my magazine does not fit the typical codes and conventions of my audience and this is to relate to the fans who may not necessarily follow the lifestyles but follow the music; its so that I reach the entire audience and don’t make others feel they don’t belong. I have also added a competition which will hopefully allow my audience to feel like they can interact with me personally and feel apart of a group which i have created. The photos attract my target audience as they’re specified to personally relate to my target audience. My magazine is like a knowledgeable older brother to my target audience as it is giving them information on all the new latest successes, ways of life, how to help get rid of addictions and the actions to take. It gives my target audience personal knowledge that they’ll want to hear, I have also used specific language that they will use, more laid back language which isn’t too fancy, this makes me sound more like them and creates a sense of me understanding what their lifestyle and lives are like, it creates a sense of trust which will make them buy the magazine. This creates an attitude appropriate to my audience as it makes them personally relate to my magazine which uses the Uses and Gratifications theory.

The USP (Unique Selling Point) of my magazine that I expect to attract my target audience is the competition advertised on the contents page of my magazine, products of interest to my target audience that they will want. A signifier to show my target audience that I know what they like and what they want. My USP will attract a mass audience, this is shown through the fact that my competition will include merchandise such as the shown gig tickets which I am offering as my competition for this issue of my magazine. i Believe this will really attract my target audience as they are the type of audience who visit these events on a regular basis, therefore if they feel that they can go for free, they will hopefully be heavily inclined into taking part in the competition. This alters from other magazines as they will typically have a free gift such as posters, therefore as mine is something which they wont come across often, I believe this will effectively work in attracting them to my magazine rather than my competitions. That is my USP which overtime will also progress into better prizes.

I also constantly asked for feedback from my audience throughout the production process so that I could tailor in some of my audience’s preferences to my magazine so that they’d be more likely to buy it as it has information that they asked for.
